There is No More Search

For many of us, the search takes on a life of its own. It becomes the lust to end all lusts, the desire that puts all other desires to shame. So we don’t want to abandon it, but we also become frustrated with the effort that never seems to end. And luckily, there is this teaching that points us in the one direction to look that can free us from this.

What direction is that? It is away from “objects,” and towards that which is aware of the objects. There is no concept required for this looking at what is aware. That’s the beauty of Advaita. No concepts required, no thinking required. Simply looking at what we don’t usually think to look at, and that is: who is doing the looking?

The looking is present, always. It never changes. All the stuff that goes on within that looking – out there, where we are usually focused – is temporary, imaginary, and unreal. What we forget is that we are ourselves one of the unreal objects! We tend to think that all the stuff out there is illusion, except me – I’m real! No! You’re just another object, appearing within the looking.

Any teacher or teaching that suggests even to the tiniest degree that there is something else to get, to learn, to do, or any longer to wait is not true. There is no person to get, learn, or do anything! No more seminars to get the person “closer”! The person is simply another object within that present-time awareness, which is here all the time. Look right now and see for yourself that awareness is here.

So, there is no more search. This seeing is here, and that is all that is going on. It’s not a mystical, hidden thing or a members-only club. It’s yours already. You are this already. Your true nature is what is making the reading of these words possible, the thinking of your thoughts possible. Is there anything else? Can that be anything but you?

You are already universal life. What need could there be to control, or to understand? See through the belief in the person, and it’s over. When is it over? When do you see this? Now, as you are aware of your being, and in that awareness, you notice that no person is present. The only thing present is the seeing, and within seeing there is the apparition of a person and apparitions of other objects. The seeing itself is not an apparition.
