That Which the Mind Does
You are watching the story of mind. You are observing the mechanism of mind.
Mind does funny things to reality, and that is what you are noticing. Reality is simply “what is” – just one, undivided truth – but mind, as is its nature, divides reality up, and labels everything, and makes a life story, and for context, a world story as well. That is what you see.
You think you are that life story. You are mistaking yourself for something that emerged from the mechanism of mind – a fabricated life. You are not a fabrication. You are real! You are what is always here, not dependent on mind to fabricate it. You are universal consciousness, eternally present.
You are One – before division, before labels, before the story of “body” and “self.” You are behind the scenes, watching as mind takes the One Essence of the universe and splits it up into bodies and selves. You are watching the result of this imaginary splitting. Your entire “world” is a result of this mind play.
There is no body. There is no life story. There is no world! There is only the sleight-of-hand performed by mind. That is what you are seeing. You are seeing “that which the mind does.” There is nothing real about it. There is only the one essence – eternal, unchanging, undivided. You are that essence – what else could you be?
Your whole life, all your concerns, all your problems – what are they? They are “that which the mind does.” Watch what happens in that mind-doing! Does the person get angry when pressed? Does the person get depressed when things seem bleak? Does the person get jubilant when the future looks bright? Watch what mind does to the undivided reality.
Watch, and marvel at the endless forms of the story. But don’t mistake it for you, and don’t bother getting emotionally involved. You are not mind, and you are not created by mind. You are that light within which mind can be and can perform its illusions.
What you see is mind at work. What you are is the essence of all seeing. |
