Below is a sampling of books that I consider potent pointers to the clear, present beingness that we are. Click on image for purchasing information.

I AM THAT
Nisargadatta Maharaj

I put this book first because many people who encounter it find their lives transformed by it. It's a big book, but everything one needs to know about non-duality is within its pages. And Nisargadatta himself seems to be present in the room, holding a space of Love for you, while you're reading it. A magical book.

Gleanings from Nisargadatta
Mark West

A wonderful slim volume of Nisargadatta talks transcribed by Mark West, his student in the 1970s. There are a lot of books of Nisargadatta talks, but most are hard to understand. This one is easy, crisp, and delivers the heart of the message in a small space. A jewel.

What's Wrong with Right Now?
"Sailor" Bob Adamson

Bob Adamson was a student of Nisargadatta Maharaj in the 1970s. He saw what was being pointed out then, and he has subsequently been talking about it for twenty-plus years at his home in Melbourne, Australia. Bob cleanly cuts to the core of false assumptions, and lets you recognize for yourself the freedom that is always present and always has been.

You Were Never Born
John Wheeler

Nobody is as effective as John Wheeler when it comes to getting across what is important, so that the true nature has a chance to reveal itself. John is the clearest of anyone talking about non-duality, and his words have the power to liberate the reader from the trap of conceptual thinking. This is the fourth of John's books of essays and dialogues, and it is his best yet.

Dogs, Cats, & Dreams of Spiritual Awakening
Stephen Wingate

Stephen helped me more than anyone else, in terms of identifying the stubborn false assumptions that were the root cause of all the pain. He does not shy away from the radical, absolute nature of this teaching, and yet his humor and warmth make it accessible. Both this new book and his earlier one are as good as it gets in this field. Both are highly recommended.

From I Am to I Am, With Love
Charlie Hayes

Charlie is a born teacher. Having been a self-admitted “tough nut to crack,” he deeply understands the pitfalls of Advaita, and knows how to help others find their way. Empathetic and yet direct, Charlie packs a powerful punch with his words. Good, clear pointing.

Back to the Truth: 5000 Years of Advaita
Dennis Waite

A valuable resource for anyone interested in Advaita at any level. Dennis covers every aspect of the subject, incorporating writings from teachers ancient to modern. An academic treatment of an enormous amount of material, while preserving the magic and beauty of the message. Nothing like this book exists, and it is destined to become a "must-have" for students and teachers.

Only You
Narayan

I read these intimate, Rumi-esque poems over and over, and each time they bring a fresh look, a deeper understanding, something new on every reading. Narayan's poems will make you laugh and cry, and they will touch you deeply. This volume is a treasure.

Oneness
John Greven

One of my favorite non-duality books, it is a slim volume, but packed with insight on every page. John has a way of undermining the most stubborn beliefs with a simple turn of phrase. A very intelligent, helpful book.

Experiencing the Depths of Jesus Christ

Jeanne Guyon

If you are stuck in an Advaita “limbo” that you can’t get out of, take a break from Advaita and read this book. This 17th-c. author was imprisoned for her radical writings on the "indwelling" Jesus. As long as you still believe in a “you,” then get a sense of the incredible indwelling spirit that is available to you at your mere calling. Very powerful little book.
